BISACODYL SUPPOSITORY 10 MG 100 PER BOTTLE

Bisacodyl is classified as a suppository and widely used to treat constipation and colonic evacuation prior to any type of surgical procedure or examination. It is also sold as Alophen; Bisac-Evac™; Bisacodyl Uniserts; Correctol Tablets; Femilax™; Fleet Bisacodyl Enema; Fleet Stimulant Laxative; Gentlax; Modane Tablets and Veracolate. Bisacodyl is available over the counter and does not require a prescription.

Bisacodyl works by increasing peristalsis of the bowel walls and leads to increased motility. It also alters the water and electrolyte secretion producing net intestinal fluid loss and relaxation. Once the suppository is inserted, it works within 5-10 minutes. It is best to take the suppository as needed first thing in the morning. The recommended dose is 10 mg, and one should not exceed more than 3 doses a day.

Bisacodyl is available as an enema (10 mg solution) or as a suppository tablet. The suppository has few mild side effects which include mild abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting or rectal irritation. These side effects usually subside in a few minutes. Bisacodyl is only meant to be used in children over the age of 6 and adults.

Individuals who have hypersensitivity to Bisacodyl or any component of the formula should avoid this product.
