There are many types of compression dressings and one of the most widely used is the coban 2 layer compression system. This dressing can be used for both open and closed wounds. In most cases, coban 2 later compression dressing work well in the extremities and over joints.
The first layer provides comfort and relieves itching and redness. When vigilantly applied, the dressing immediately delivers comfort and effective compression. It consists of two latex-free roll bandages. The internal comfort layer is a lamination of polyurethane foam and an adhesive bandage. The outer compression layer is an adhesive bandage, intended to provide constant, compression at levels which are known to be effective for the treatment of leg swelling and venous ulcers.
Once the 2 layers of the dressing have been applied, the two layers merge and become on solid bandage that does not easily slip during daily walking
The coban compression system may be worn for 5-7 days at a time. The dressing can also be used to relieve leg swelling from heart failure and related disorders. It is best not to use the coban dressing as a wound cover because such it is not frequently changed.
