BISCADODYL TABS 5 MG

Bisacodyl is classified as a laxative and widely used to treat constipation and colonic evacuation prior to any type of surgical procedure or examination. It is also sold as Alophen; Bisac-Evac™; Bisacodyl Uniserts; Correctol Tablets; Femilax™; Fleet Bisacodyl Enema; Fleet Stimulant Laxative; Gentlax; Modane Tablets and Veracolate. Bisacodyl is available over the counter and does not require a prescription.

Bisacodyl works by increasing peristalsis of the bowel walls and leads to increased motility. It also alters the water and electrolyte secretion producing net intestinal fluid loss and relaxation. Once the tablet is taken with water, it works within 6-10 hours. It is best to take the tablet at night on an empty stomach. The tablet should not be crushed in the mouth but swallowed whole.

The recommended dose is 5-10 mg, and one should not exceed more than 3 doses a day. One should avoid taking Bisacodyl with dairy or milk products as the absorption can be delayed. The drugs has few mild side effects which include mild abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting or rectal irritation. These side effects usually subside in a few minutes.

Bisacodyl is only meant to be used in children over the age of 6 and adults.
Individuals who have hypersensitivity to Bisacodyl or any component of the formula should avoid this product.
